A questionnaire was sent to family practitioners to evaluate the numbe
r of suspected cases of pertussis encountered in 1993. The answer coul
d be obtained from 47,5 % of the physicians, who suspected pertussis i
n 78 patients : 66 children and 12 adults. Intrafamilial contamination
was obvious in 6,4 % of patients. A 5-6 years booster dose of pertuss
is vaccine was systematically administered by 45,5 % of the physicians
, and often by 15,2 %, A contraindication for pertussis vaccine was en
countered in greater than or equal to one case by 16,1 % of the partic
ipating physicians. No correlation could be shown between the number o
f cases suspected, and either the number of contraindications to pertu
ssis vaccine or the use of booster doses by the same physician.
