Neonatal lupus syndrome (NLS) is characterized by the presence of cuta
neous lupus, congenital heart block or both associated with maternal a
utoantibodies anti-Re (SS-A) and anti-La (SS-B). NLS is responsible fo
r more than 80 percent of cases with isolated congenital complete hear
t block This report describes a neonate with third-degree atrioventric
ular block who was born to an anti-Re (SS-A) positive mother. The derm
atological and hematological manifestations of NLS were absent. The in
fant's clinical condition was good during the two months of follow-up
with expectant management.
