In the spring of 1991 a severe injury of Diachea leucopodia (Bull.) Ro
st. slime mould was observed in a strawberry plantation in Debrecen (E
astern Hungary).Although this slime mould is considered a saprophytic
organism, its harmful effect is that it covers different parts of cult
ivated plants incidentally killing the whole plant or decreasing the m
arketable value of fruits. The quantity of damaged fruits was about 10
-15 percent in 1991. The authors survey the symptoms of disease, the m
orphological features of slime mould, its life cycle and opportunities
for in vitro growing.
