Adult confederates visited 79 independent markets and liquor stores at
tempting to purchase single cigarettes before and after a routine visi
t by a county health department environmental health inspector, which
included a review of the fact that the sale of single cigarettes was i
llegal. The percent of stores that sold single cigarettes dropped from
34% before the visits to 10% after the visits.
