Abstract
All 6 naupliar stages of Mesocyclops edax Forbes, 1891, are described. Naupliar development is compared within the subfamily Cyclopinae Kief er, 1927, and external morphological characters are discussed with res pect to previous studies and in the light of phylogenetic relationship s. Nauplii of M. edax show a number of peculiar autapomorphies but hav e more characters in common with species of Thermocyclops than with sp ecies of Mesocyclops studied previously. A key to the identification o f the naupliar stages is provided.
