M. Glowacki et al., MODELING OF HEAT-TRANSFER, PLASTIC-FLOW AND MICROSTRUCTURAL EVOLUTIONDURING SHAPE ROLLING, Journal of materials processing technology, 53(1-2), 1995, pp. 159-166
The paper describes investigations on the development of an integrated
model allowing for the prediction of heat transfer, plastic now, and
microstructure evolution during shape rolling. Finite element method w
as adopted to describe the heat transfer and plastic now phenomena. Ge
neralized plane strain method is applied to modelling the 3D problem u
sing 2D finite element formulation. In consequence, significant saving
s of the computing time and required memory can be obtained. A compute
r program in FORTRAN 77 was written according to the developed mathema
tical model. Data on temperature, strain and strain rate relevant to t
he rail rolling process were computed and employed to model microstruc
ture evolution in austenite.
