Jl. Cladera, SELF-SEXING STRAIN OF CERATITIS-CAPITATA (DIPTERA, TEPHRITIDAE) BASEDON A GENE THAT AFFECTS THE RATE OF DEVELOPMENT, Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 88(3), 1995, pp. 353-356
A mutation causing slower than normal development in the Mediterranean
fruit By, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), is described. The mutation
was mapped in relation to known genetic markers. By using a Y-autosome
translocation, a strain of flies with female limited inheritance of t
he slow-development trait was obtained. The potential usefulness of ge
nes causing alterations on the rate of development for the constructio
n of self-sexing strains is briefly discussed.
