A synthesis is reported of polymeric antioxidant compositions by conde
nsation of sterically hindered phenol derivatives with N-vinylpyrrolid
one copolymers. Conditions have been determined that allow preparation
of water-soluble condensation products. Variation of the nature of po
lymer-support, antioxidant, and polymer-antioxidant bond (axomethine,
ester, amide, hydrazide, or -C-N-) allow the rate of elimination of an
tioxidant from the polymer to be controlled.
