Abstract
Nearly penalty free 100Gbit/s, 500km optical transmission is successfu lly demonstrated using transform-limited optical pulses. By optimising the signal wavelength, low power penalties of 0.2 and 1.6dB are achie ved after 200 and 500km, respectively.
