Abstract
In the following study the therapeutic effect of 60 mg isosorbid-5-mon onitrate (Coleb-Duriles) was studied with 24-hour blood pressure measu rements (ABPM) in elderly, untreated patients with office blood pressu re of systolic > 160 mmHg and diastolic < 95 mmHg. Additionally the pa tient must have during ABPM 24 hours mean values of systolic > 146 mmH g and of diastolic < 87 mmHg. ABPM was performed before and after a tr eatment period of 6 weeks with Coleb-Duriles 60 mg once daily at 8.00 am. Twenty-one patients were included in the study, 2 of them (= 8.7%) break off having severe headache. The average age was 70 years, Coleb -Duriles decreased significantly systolic blood pressure as well in of fice as in ABPM measurements. A significant influence on diastolic blo od pressure and heart rate was not found. Dangerous hypotensions espec ially at night were never recorded. There was a significant systolic b lood decrease of the mean day time values (6.00-22.00) and of the mean night time values (22.00-6.00, p < 0,05). Conclusions: The results de monstrate an effective decrease in systolic blood pressure in elderly patients with ISH by isosorbid-5-mononitrate without effecting diastol ic blood pressure and heart rate.
