Finite-size effects have been incorporated consistently into a relativ
istic Fermi gas model of quasi-elastic electron scattering by means of
a geometrical correction to the density of states. A simple physicall
y meaningful empirical parametrization of the effective radius (or the
Fermi momentum) as a function of the mass number is obtained from a f
it to experimental differential cross-sections. Using this parameteriz
ation of the effective radius the inelastic structure functions and Co
ulomb sum rules have been calculated for different nuclei.
