Abstract
Parenteral third-generation cephalosporins have a broad spectrum of ac tivity against a wide variety of pathogens. Cefotaxime and ceftriaxone sodium have become drugs of choice for the empirical treatment of men ingitis in infants, children, and adults. The role of these extended-s pectrum cephalosporins for serious infections in pediatric patients is expanding.
