C. Lobo et al., ON THE GALAXY LUMINOSITY FUNCTION IN THE CENTRAL REGION OF THE COMA CLUSTER, Astrophysical letters & communications, 31(1-6), 1995, pp. 345-348
We have observed the central regions of the Coma cluster, both spectro
scopically and photometrically, in a field of about 50x25 arcmin(2). O
ur sample is 95 % complete in redshift up to a magnitude b(26.5)=18.0
- we have doubled the number of galaxies with redshifts members of Com
a in this region to a total of 205 - and our photometric data is compl
ete up to V-26.5=22.5. We derive two luminosity functions for galaxies
with bright and intermediate magnitudes, respectively, and propose th
e best fits to them using a Schechter plus a Gauss function and a Sche
chter function alone.
