As part of the development of a liquid chromatographic procedure for p
redicting the environmental fate of organic pollutants, we have evalua
ted silica-derivatized stationary phases as models for the organic con
stituents of soils. These silica-derivatized phases, formed by immobil
izing salicylic acid and 8-hydroxyquinoline on silica, have been evalu
ated by estimating the soil partition coefficients (K-oc) for a series
of organic chemicals and comparing them with values reported in the l
iterature.
