A NEW POLARIMETER AT THE UNIVERSITE DE MONTREAL

We present Beauty and The Beast, the new polarimeter of the Universite de Montreal, formerly built for the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope (C FHT) but never commissioned there;This computer-controlled Pockels-cel l polarimeter has been restored to working order and offers a wide ran ge of possibilities: almost all functions are under remote control, li near- or circular-polarization observations are bath possible, a filte r slide provides easy access to up to six different bandpasses, and th e Pockels cell and Fabry lenses are kept at a constant temperature. In addition to controling the instrument, the software allows the use of predefined sequences of observation, and does data acquisition and re duction.
