We examine the general problem of wavefront measurement of coherent li
ght, and present a method for the recovery of the object field from it
s diffraction pattern. This method is based on the combined applicatio
n of the amplitude-phase relationship of the wavefront and an iteratio
n procedure, and is limited only by the size of the object-space apert
ure. The results of simultaneous as well as experimental data attest t
o a high accuracy for the described method.
