Kj. Hwang et al., FUROXANS AS POTENTIAL NITRIC-OXIDE GENERATOR - MECHANISTIC SPECULATION ON THE ELECTRON IMPACTED FRAGMENTATION, Tetrahedron letters, 36(19), 1995, pp. 3337-3340
The electron impacted fragmentation of furoxan derivatives in the mass
spectrometer generates nitric oxide through the initial cleavage of O
(1)-N(2) bond. The direct generation of NO by a chemical decomposition
suggests that the furoxan derivatives can be utilized as a potential
NO-related biological probe.
