Abstract
The decomposition of H2C2O4 in HNO3 solutions in the presence of Pt/Si O2 is studied. At [HNO3] = similar to 7M, NO2 and HNO2 are formed; in dilute solutions, N-2. The decomposition rate depends on [H+] [HNO3] a nd [HNO2]. A possible reaction mechanism involving formation of NO2+ a nd NO is discussed.
