Rv. Bogdanov et al., POSSIBILITY OF INCORPORATING HIGH-LEVEL WASTES IN CERAMIC MATRICES BASED ON NATURAL ROCKS, Radiochemistry, 36(5), 1994, pp. 522-531
Samples of silicate mineral ceramics of various compositions based on
composites of granites, unconditioned apatite ores, tailings from enri
chment of apatite ores, and model radioactive wastes are synthesized a
nd studied. The rates at which Na+, Ca2+, Sr2+ and Cs+ leached by H2O
at room temperature from the ceramics are measured. The silicate metal
loceramic surpasses borosilicate glass in retention of alkali and alka
line-earth metals. Several composites rival the ceramic SYNROC in reli
ability of Cs immobilization.
