USE OF AN EXPANDABLE ULTRAFLEX STENT IN THE TREATMENT OF MALIGNANT RECTAL STRICTURE

Obstructive colorectal cancer is usually an indication for surgical in tervention. For patients with metastatic disease, medical contraindica tions, or those who refuse surgery, palliation by nonoperative means i s necessary. The advent of expandable metallic stents may allow for sp eedy palliation. We have treated one patient with unresectable colon c ancer with a new selfexpanding endoprosthesis made of nitinol (Ultrafl ex, Microvasive, Watertown, MA, U.S.A.).
