Obstructive colorectal cancer is usually an indication for surgical in
tervention. For patients with metastatic disease, medical contraindica
tions, or those who refuse surgery, palliation by nonoperative means i
s necessary. The advent of expandable metallic stents may allow for sp
eedy palliation. We have treated one patient with unresectable colon c
ancer with a new selfexpanding endoprosthesis made of nitinol (Ultrafl
ex, Microvasive, Watertown, MA, U.S.A.).
