Abstract
Single crystals of Na2EuCl5 were obtained from the melt of NaCl and Eu Cl3 in a 2:1.2 molar ratio by slow cooling. It crystallizes in the ort horhombic crystal system (space group Pnma) with the structure of K2Pr Cl5 with a = 1204.0(3) pm, b = 833.9(3) pm, c = 768.2(3) pm, Z = 4. Pu re powder samples of the compounds Na(2)MCl(5) (M = Sm-Gd) are availab le by heating mixtures of the binary components below the melting poin t.
