Raman spectra of Si/GexSi1-x superlattices have been measured, probing
close to the mini Brillouin zone edge. The data reveal sharp lines ap
pearing between those of folded phonon doublets. These lines have been
interpreted with the aid of a computational method based on the photo
elastic theory for low frequency Raman scattering by longitudinal acou
stic phonons in finite size superlattices.
