Abstract
Using the exact solution for electronic states of a step-well superlat tice, we derive the subband di pole moment matrix elements, and then u se a density matrix formalism, with electron relaxation taken into acc ount, to derive the linear and third-order nonlinear subband-absorptio n coefficients for a step-well superlattice. A numerical illustration is given.
