Abstract
Physics studies are carried out on heliotron/torsatron plasmas concent raring on the Large Helical Device (LHD). Flexibility and freedom of L HD as an experimental device are emphasized. A variety of configuratio ns can be realized changing the pitch parameter and the poloidal field s. The possibilities to reduce the bootstrap current and to enhance th e radial electric field are investigated.
