Llamas and alpakas have gained and maintained popularity in the United
States and Europe. Castration is the most common surgical procedure p
erformed on llamas. It decreases the number of undesirable genetic cha
racteristics, reduces the risk of behavioral problems such as aggressi
on, allows males and females to run together without fear of unwanted
pregnancy. In the following we will describe two methods of castrating
a llama.
