Branched living oligomers of 2-vinylpyridine (VP) with chromium counte
rions of polymerization degree ca. 6 were synthesized. These chains, u
sed as initiators for polymerization of acrylonitrile, give high-molec
ular-weight copolymers which are both highly branched and well soluble
in DMFA. Varying polymerization temperature and duration of experimen
ts at constant concentrations of the reagents, one can control molecul
ar weight of final products over a wide range.
