Sorption-diffusive characteristics of the system poly-beta-hydroxybuty
rate-sorbate were studied. The impurities in the polymer affect the su
permolecular structure of the polymeric matrix, causing the sorption c
apacity for water and thermal stability to change. Analysis in terms o
f the theory of regular solutions revealed a correlation between the s
olubility of the sorbate in poly-beta-hydrobutyrate and the parameters
of solubility. Relationships between the diffusion coefficients and c
oncentration of the penetrant in the matrix were obtained. The values
of the diffusion coefficients extrapolated to the zero concentration d
epend on the nature of the solvent and increase in a series benzen con
gruent-to ethanol < hexane < acetone.
