A. Kumar et al., COUPLING CHARACTERISTICS OF A TWIN HIGH-ELLIPTIC-CORE FIBEROPTIC POLARIZATION BEAM SPLITTER, International journal of optoelectronics, 9(4), 1994, pp. 297-301
Coupling characteristics of a fibre-optic polarization beam splitter c
onsisting of two highly elliptic cores are obtained using a rectangula
r-core waveguide model. Theoretical results are found to be consistent
with the available experimental results. The study indicates that the
polorization splitting beat length L(B) decreases with increasing cor
e-ellipticity, core-cladding index difference and operating wavelength
. Further, for a given core-ellipticity L(B) attains a minimum value w
hen the centre-to centre separation between the two cores is about thr
ee times that of their semi-minor axis.
