The interaction between poly(C) and poly(G).poly(C) was studied by dif
ferential impulse polarography. It was shown that binding of poly(C) t
o poly(G).poly(C) hinders its interaction with the electrode. The low
concentration of poly(C) in the presence of poly(G).poly(C) was attrib
uted to its interaction with unpaired G residues of poly(G). To determ
ine the concentration of these residues, the fluorescence of Tb3+ was
measured in the presence of poly(G).poly(C). It was found that denatur
ation of poly(G).poly(C) followed by renaturation reduces the number o
f defects in the poly(G) molecule.
