We studied the influence of glucose limitation and glucose starvation
on the transport of this sugar into the cells of Rhodococcus minimus B
293 by the highly efficient S1 system. Glucose transport was shown to
be controlled by the ''glucose effect,'' which was realized at two lev
els. At the activity level the control by glucose effect (inactivation
) was stable in the rhodococcus under study. At the level of the prote
in synthesis, the phenotype ''activated by the glucose starvation synt
hesis of the proteins of transport system S1'' was metastable.
