TRANSPORT OF ALKALOID ROQUEFORTINE INTO CELLS OF THE FUNGUS PENICILLIUM-FARINOSUM

The uptake of roquefortine by cells of Penicillium farinosum was studi ed. This process did not require the presence of glucose or other ener gy sources and was not inhibited by protonophores; thus, it did not de pend on Delta mu H+. The K-m value for roquefortine transport was abou t 65 mu M. It is suggested that roquefortine is transported into the c ells of P. farinosum by the mechanism of facilitated diffusion.
