IDENTIFICATION OF PSEUDOMONAS MALLEI BACTERIA WITH THE HELP OF PSEUDOMONAS-PSEUDOMALLEI BACTERIOPHAGES

Phage-producing and phage-indicating properties of Pseudomonas pseudom allei and Pseudomonas mallei bacterial strains were studied. Thirty-tw o P. pseudomallei bacteriophages were isolated, and the spectrum of th eir lytic activity with respect to P. pseudomallei, P. mallei, and mem bers of other species of pseudomonads was determined. It was shown tha t the melioidosis bacteriophages PP19, PP23, and PP33 may be used for identifying P. mallei bacteria among closely allied Pseudomonas specie s.
