Abstract
A brief historical description of the development of the latex and dis posable medical glove industry is presented. Methods of harvest, proce ssing, compounding dipping, and postprocessing are described with rega rd to the potential effect(s) on the biocompatibility of the final pro duct. Historical records, scientific principles, and a number of theor etical explanations are set forth in a cumulative challenge proposal f or the increased incidence of Type I hypersensitivity.
