A novel method is proposed for the analysis of transients in dielectri
c guide, e.g., when excited by a gaussian beam pulsed in time and modu
lated by a cosine waveform. This approach, utilizing the full modal sp
ectrum of the guide, results more reliable than existing numerical tec
hniques, while, by virtue of its analytical nature, greatly reducing t
he computational complexity of the problem.
