Mj. Grygier, NOMENCLATURE, REDESCRIPTION, AND NEW RECORD FROM OKINAWA OF CYMBASOMA-MORII SEKIGUCHI, 1982 (MONSTRILLOIDA), Hydrobiologia, 293, 1994, pp. 23-29
Haemocera morii Tokioka, 1949 was undiagnosed and thus unavailable. Se
kiguchi's description in 1982 of a second female, as Cymbasoma morii,
inadvertently validated the species name. Both specimens, from bays in
Honshu, Japan, are deemed to be syntypes; Tokioka's is lost but Sekig
uchi's is designated the lectotype and redescribed. Several more femal
es collected over a fringing reef at Sesoka Island, Okinawa, are also
described. Previously overlooked features include: cephalic ornamentat
ion, thoracic sensilla, precise antennualar setation, a short medial s
eta on the exopod of leg 5, dorsal wrinkles on the genital segment, an
d swollen tips of the genital spines. Cymbasoma morii is distinguished
from five similar species by various combinations of characters; howe
ver, it sufficiently resembles C. longispinosum (Bourne) that subspeci
fic rank might be warranted. A literature record of C. longispinosum f
rom Kerala, India, possibly represents misidentified C. morii.
