Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) in childhood are characteriz
ed by great heterogeneity with regard to presentation, extent and rate
of progression, and severity of extraintestinal complications. This a
rticle describes many of the special features of IBD in children. A se
lected review of the Literature provides a rationale for selecting a t
herapeutic regimen based on the results of drug and nutritional studie
s conducted in children with IBD.
