The influence of elastic anisotropy on dislocation instability in cubi
c elastic media is investigated systematically using the Stroh sextic
formalism. The iteration method is used to calculate the dislocation e
nergy factor of straight dislocations and the line tension of planar c
urved dislocations. By examining the inverse energy surface for variou
s Burgers vectors, the general features of the dislocation instabiliti
es in cubic elastic media are obtained.
