Mcs. Rebello et al., STUDIES ON THE REPLICATION OF MAYARO VIRUS GROWN IN INTERFERON-TREATED CELLS, Memorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 89(4), 1994, pp. 619-623
Mayaro virus grown in interferon treated infected cells has been chara
cterized with regard to ifs ability to replicate in vertebrate (TC7) a
nd invertebrate (Aedes albopictus) cells. Virus purified from interfer
on treated TC7 cells adsorbs and penetrates to the same extent as the
control virus. During infection, these virus particles caused inhibiti
on of host protein synthesis and synthesized the same spectrum of vira
l proteins as normal virus. This population however; was apparently mo
re sensitive to interferon treatment Electron microscopy of TC7 cells
showed the presence of numerous aberrant virus particles budding from
the plasma membrane.
