Abstract
A collage of eight overlapping themes for the definition of sexuality is presented prior to undertaking a historical overview of the rapid d evelopment of the field that began in 1970 as ''sex therapy.'' The lim itations of theory, behavioral science, and the art of medicine as the y apply to helping people with their sexual concerns are highlighted.
