Jh. Spindel et al., THE ROUND WINDOW ELECTROMAGNETIC IMPLANTABLE HEARING-AID APPROACH, Otolaryngologic clinics of North America, 28(1), 1995, pp. 189-205
The round window electromagnetic implantable hearing aid (RWEM) approa
ch uses a magnet surgically implanted onto the round window membrane o
f the cochlea to impart vibrational energy to the inner ear when drive
n by a nearby electromagnetic coil. In this article, experimental meth
ods used in animal ABR studies are described for this approach and evi
dence for the viability of this technique is demonstrated by the simil
arity of ABR waveforms obtained using RWEM and acoustically-evoked sti
muli.
