Electroosmotic permeation studies across a pyrex membrane with and wit
hout impregnation with aluminium hydroxide, using binary methanol-benz
ene mixtures have been carried out. Variation of electroosmotic permea
bility with composition has been examined. These results in conjunctio
n with the membrane conductance measurements have been used to determi
ne the electrical character of the membrane-permeant interphasial regi
on responsible for electroosmotic activity. Attempt has also been made
to examine the results in the light of intermolecular interactions am
ongst the constituents of the mixtures.
