Between 1988 and 1992, 69 sites from a total of 132 examined in County
Dublin yielded charophytes. Sites ranged in size from canals and rese
rvoirs to cattle drinking troughs and included locations of flowing, s
till and standing water. Eleven species of Charophyta, covering the ge
nera Chara, Nitella and Tolypella, were recorded. In addition, physico
-chemical analysis for a number of variables was carried out on water
samples from 32 locations which yielded charophytes. The findings are
discussed in relation to previous records for the vice-county and to a
spects of the ecology of the recorded species as reported in the liter
ature.
