Abstract
Cutaneous endometrisois is regarded as a rare condition. It usually oc curs in scars after gynecological surgery, but can also develop sponta neously. The case of a 31 year-old woman with spontaneous umbilical en dometriosis is presented. A small nodule has appeared in the umbilicus about 9 months before admission and had been enlarging since that tim e. The lesion was infrequently associated with a mild pain, which was unrelated to the menstruation. Physical examination revealed a firm, b luish-brown nodule in the umbilical depression. Histopathology showed glandular lumina in the dermis resembling endometrial tissue. Cutaneou s endometriosis should be included in the differential diagnosis of um bilical lesions, even when there is no relationship with the menses.
