Y. Vandepeer et al., COMPILATION OF PSEUDOMONAD SEQUENCES PRESENT IN A DATABASE ON THE STRUCTURE OF RIBOSOMAL-RNA, Systematic and applied microbiology, 19(4), 1996, pp. 493-500
The ribosomal RNA database in Antwerp (Belgium) offers extensive align
ments of both small and large ribosomal subunit RNA (SSU/LSU rRNA) seq
uences. In July 1996, the SSU rRNA and LSU rRNA sequence alignments co
mprised respectively about 6400 and 350 sequences. The alignments are
based on the secondary structure models adopted for both molecules, wh
ich are corroborated by the observation of compensating mutations. Lit
erature references, accession numbers, and detailed taxonomic informat
ion are also compiled. Since part of this issue of Systematic and Appl
ied Microbiology is dedicated to the pseudomonads in particular, all S
SU rRNA and LSU rRNA sequences determined for these bacteria and avail
able in the Antwerp databases are listed. The complete databases are a
ccessible to the scientific community through anonymous ftp and World
Wide Web. Our server also provides software for sequence alignment and
phylogenetic tree construction.
