N. Gungor et S. Dilmac, DIFFERENCE IN THE INFLUENCE OF NA AND CA IONS ON THE ZETA-POTENTIAL OF ANATOLIAN BENTONITIC CLAYS, Journal of inclusion phenomena and molecular recognition in chemistry, 26(1-3), 1996, pp. 93-101
The values of the zeta potentials for bentonitic clay particles suspen
ded in solutions of NaCl, (NaPO3)(n) and CaCl2 at different electrolyt
e concentrations and constant pH(similar to 7) were measured. When Ca
salts were added to the clay solutions in increasing concentrations, t
he double layers of particle surfaces gradually contract, become narro
wer and the zeta potential value decreases. When Na salts were used, t
he zeta potential increased with increasing concentration.
