A new peptide called astin J (1) was isolated from the roots of Aster tataricus. The structure was elucidated by spectroscopic methods and c hemical transformation from a cyclic pentapeptide, astin C, isolated f rom A. tatar icus to the analogous acyclic peptide, 2.
