C. Biedermann et al., STUDY OF RADIATIVE RECOMBINATION INTO DEUTERIUM RYDBERG STATES, Journal of physics. B, Atomic molecular and optical physics, 28(3), 1995, pp. 505-514
Deuterium Rydberg states which were populated by radiative recombinati
on in the electron cooler of CRYRING have been detected using state-se
lective held ionization in an external electric field. Absolute radiat
ive recombination rate coefficients for Rydberg states between 12 less
than or equal to n less than or equal to 18 are extracted and agree w
ell with theoretical calculations using the Kramers cross section corr
ected by the Gaunt factor. The influence of the Stark effect on the Ry
dberg states has to be taken into account to explain the data. It was
found that the relative population distribution of Rydberg states as w
ell as the rate coefficient are very sensitive to the transverse elect
ron temperature in the electron cooler.
