Abstract
Photochemical properties of a diarylethene with a thiophene and a benz othiophene ring in Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films have been examined. Th e diarylethene, which exhibited a highly effective photochromism in fl uid solution, was found to show a similar photochromism in LB films. T he quantum yields of coloring and breaching reactions have been determ ined to be 0.27 and 0.10, respectively.
