S. Baklouti et al., HYDATID CYST OF THE FEMUR - REPORT OF A C ASE WITH MISLEADING ROENTGENOGRAPHIC FINDINGS, La Semaine des hopitaux de Paris, 71(3-4), 1995, pp. 102-105
A 54-year-old woman developed a pathological fracture of the femur as
the first manifestation of a femoral hydatid cyst. Roentgenograms show
ed an osteolytic lesion with rupture of the cortex and calcifications
in adjacent soft tissues, suggesting a chondrosarcoma or a bone metast
asis. Computed tomography failed to show fluid-filled lesions in the b
one or soft tissues. The correct diagnosis was established by examinat
ion of a surgical bone biopsy specimen and was confirmed by immunologi
cal tests.
