Abstract
The equations of motion and continuity are solved with a Finite Elemen t Method (FEM) that is combined with a Boundary Element Method (BEM) f or the coupled equation of energy. The position of the free surfaces i s estimated by a spine method. With a computer code the temperature fi elds and flow fields in calenders and coaters can be calculated. Resul ts are also shown for calculated velocities, temperatures and die swel ls in extrusion processes.
